What is the PE, Swimming and Sport Premium?
The Government provide primary schools with additional funding to be used to improve the provision of PE and Sport in schools. Schools have been advised to spend their funding to:
Engage all pupils in regular physical activity
To raise the profile of PE across the school
Increase staff knowledge, skills and confidence in teaching PE and sport
Offer a range of sport and activities to our pupils
Increase participation in competitive sport
Fordley Primary School aim higher in all areas of the curriculum, and PE and physical health and wellbeing are vital for our children. The profile of PE and Sport in the school has been raised with the help of the Sport Premium over the last five years. We have, over the years, participated in more competitions, accessed a range of sports we would never have, the staff have been trained and are confident in teaching areas of PE they once found difficult, the pupils have accessed expert sports people in the local community and beyond which has enthused them about sport. Throughout the pandemic, and beyond, we have been able to ensure children are excited to be active through face to face and remote fitness challenges, competitions and awards. We also continue to make use of short active sessions daily, either at the start of the school day or as brain breaks throughout the day, to maintain a focus on being fit, active and healthy. Our children continue to gain a greater understanding of healthy eating through our partnership with Phunky Foods and our Healthy Food Ambassadors often lead assemblies (with support from Rachel from Phunky Foods) to maintain a high priority on healthy and balanced choices of food.
Sports Premium
Please find below our action plan for this year detailing how we plan to spend our Sports Premium funding for the benefit of our children.
Our key areas are:
- outdoor learning
- renewed engagement in competitive sports and experiences
- CPD to increase and strengthen effective teaching of PE
- additional swimming for Y6
Please note there are no swimming outcomes for 2019-20 and 2020-21 due to COVID, however any children who missed their swimming opportunities will have this before they leave Y6.
